S'agit-il là d'une nouvelle inquiétante? Décevante serait le terme plus juste. En effet, Bungie désire probablement garder secret le plus de détails possibles. Toutefois, les plus pessimistes se demanderont si le développement du jeu de tir vedette de Microsoft progresse bien et si il sera bel et bien lancé en 2004.

Nintendo a déjà annoncé qu’il exposerait la DS, nom de code de son nouveau concept de console portable. Pour Sony, il s’agit du nouveau « walkman du 21ème siècle », capable de diffuser des jeux, des films et de la musique.
Nintendo a prévu d’annoncer une trentaine de titres. Ce qui sera dur à réaliser pour Sony qui annonce tout juste ses premiers partenaires. A ce jour plus de cent studios à travers le monde ont reçu un kit de développement et annoncent des jeux pour la DS, précise Nintendo. Parmi les éditeurs travaillant déjà sur la nouvelle console portable figurent THQ, Activision, Atari, Ubisoft, Majesco, Capcom, Sega, Konami, Hudson Soft, Namco, Bandai, Koei et Square Enix. Une machine jugée innovante par Nick Earl, VP et DG d’Electronic Arts qui développe également ses premiers produits sur PSP.
Fin février, SCE a décidé de repousser à 2005 le lancement européen et américain de la PlayStation portable. Ce délai devrait lui donner le temps d’élargir la gamme de jeux dédiés à la PSP. Ce qui sera indispensable si Sony veut atteindre son objectif de 3 millions d’unités vendues avant la fin de son exercice fiscal en mars 2004.
Un prototype de la PSP a été présenté fin 2003 pour la première fois à New York par Ken Kutaragi (concepteur et Président Directeur Général de Sony Computer Enternaiment Inc.). La console pourrait intégrer un téléphone mobile et offrir la possibilité de jouer en réseau via une connexion sans fil 802.11b. Elle serait équipée de deux processeurs MIPS 32 bit R4000 et d’un écran 16/9 de 4,5 pouces offrant une résolution de 480 x 272 pixels. Ce design provisoire sera-t-il confirmé ?
Nintendo a annoncé fin janvier la sortie cette année de sa console portable à double écran. La DS (son nom provisoire) comporte en effet deux LCD TFT de 3 pouces, des processeurs séparés et « un stockage mémoire sur semi-conducteur atteignant le Gigabit ». Les joueurs pourront contrôler l’action selon deux points de vue différents, ce qui devrait accroître la vitesse du jeu ainsi que le développement de stratégies. Lors d’un match de football, par exemple, l’un des écrans proposera une vue d’ensemble du stade tandis que l’autre permettra de se concentrer sur un joueur de l’équipe en particulier. Plus besoin de passer d’une vue d’ensemble pour opérer un zoom sur l’un des joueurs et se concentrer sur une phase de jeu pour marquer un but. Idem pour passer d’un personnage en plein combat vers la carte de son environnement. «La nouvelle Nintendo DS permettra d’effectuer ces actions en temps réel en regardant l’un ou l’autre des écrans », précise le constructeur.
